swimming pool alone is subject to registration.

Schroeter is the series of inter-hostel sports and athletics competitions that run
throughout the academic year. Students participate on behalf of their hostel, and win
points for their hostel on the men's and women's leaderboards. The ten men's hostels
compete for the Men's Schroeter and the four women's hostels compete for the Women's
Schroeter.
Schroeter events are announced on smail. Contact your hostels' Sports Secretary to
participate.
The Dean's Trophy inter-hostel sports competitions are conducted following Schroeter,
with the aim of increasing participation at the hostel level. It covers eight non-Inter
IIT events, namely:
Six-a-side women's football was first introduced in the year 2023-24.
The Inter IIT Aquatics Meet occurs every October. The Madras Sharks, our excelling
aquatics team, puts up impressive efforts every year and wins numerous medals.
Tryouts for the swimming contingent will be announced on smail. Keep an eye out for
them, or contact your hostel's Sports Secretary if you would like to participate.
The first Inter IIT Sports Meet was held in 1961, and since then has been hosted by
different IITs in December every year. It is a highly anticipated event for the sports
contingent of IIT Madras, who have had a stellar record in winning both the overall
General Championship and the Women's General Championship.

out for them, or contact your hostel's Sports Secretary if you would like to join the
contingent.
Sports 4 All is a day of adaptive sports designed to bring together people with disabilities, caregivers, students, and the general public to explore and enjoy sports. It is organised by the National Center for Assistive Health Technologies, IIT Madras (NCAHT-IITM) and the TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2). The event caters to all ages, abilities and skill levels, and offers wheelchair and interactive sports.
SportsFest, a five-day event every September, is an intercollegiate invitation tournament conducted for multiple sports, with participation from city colleges in and around Chennai. The competition helps Institute players prepare and make up teams for the Inter IIT Sports Meet. This tournament is conducted on a knockout-cum-league basis for all major sports.
This South India Volleyball tournament, which takes place every March, is a
multidimensional platform for national talents to show their high-level
performance with good sportsmanship and positive team spirit. IT is named after
a national volleyball icon, and the Jimmy George Foundation, Peravoor, has
generously donated the trophies for this prestigious national-level volleyball
event.
The tournament is open only to invited colleges. Bona fide regular and
full-time students with valid college ID cards are eligible to represent the
institution. Men's matches will be conducted on a league-cum-knock out basis and
the women's matches will be on a league basis.
The GF & KR invitation basketball tournament, which occurs every March, has been successfully organized by IIT Madras for more than three decades. It is among the most prestigious intercollegiate tournaments in the country. The Gerhard Fischer Cup for men was instituted by Dr. Gerhard Fischer, Former Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany (Madras) in 1975. Later in 1979, Mrs. Kokila Rajaiah, graciously contributed a trophy for a similar tournament for women. The tournament is open only to invited colleges in India. Bona fide regular and full-time students with valid college ID cards are eligible to represent their institution. Outstation teams will be provided with free boarding and lodging by IIT Madras.
