The Engineering Unit is working on making the dustbins monkey-proof. We advise the HAS to place at least 2 or 3 segregated waste bins. Planning to take a survey on the preference of pedals or aerators on the dustbins.
Planning to acquire and work on the daily mess food waste data to analyze the wastage and make changes in the menu to reduce it. Also planning to use posters at the mess to create awareness about the food wastage and reduce it.
Give cleaning staff in hostels the responsibility of switching off unused lights. Check Himalaya street lights and outside lights and turn them off in the mornings.
Conduct competitions among the hostels using electricity and water metrics where the hostel with the minimum water and electricity consumption per person wins.
Make the best out of waste to promote sustainable lifestyle by reusing, recycling and promoting a circular economy.
Hold sessions to educate guards and cleaning staff about the environment and the impact of their daily activities on it and encourage them to participate in green initiatives.
Visit biogas, and recycling centers to understand where waste goes, and vermicompost and make videos of them. Learn how lab waste is managed. Check solar panel efficiency, AC in the library and rainwater harvesting inside the institute.
Celebrate environment- related days by inviting experts in environmental science to speak about current issues and potential solutions and organizing events such as clean-up activities to clean the beach.
Conduct research to identify new and innovative ways to reduce the environmental impacts within the Insti. Collaborate with other committees inside IIT and other NGOs and the government regarding sustainability.
Set up a designated collection point and partner with a local e-waste recycling service to ensure that e-waste is disposed of responsibly and that the college is doing its part to protect the environment.
